Spain!
We're so very excited to announce our first foray into Spain! As Catalan country goes, we are certainly long-time fans, first time callers. The Spanish side, anyway. In the alt Penedes, on the southern slopes of Montserrat, sits Castell d’Age - A winery tied to three generations of women. The cellar sits in an 18th century farmhouse in the small village of La Beguda Baixa. Olivia Junyent at it’s reins, organic viticulture and a love of tradition in the cellar, the winery has been a force for good in the region (introducing organic farming, and currently biodynamic certified). Recently, Sondre Lerche, a musician from Bergen, Norway, fell for these wines and had the opportunity to band together and create a project of totally tasty, everything-you-crave-in-a-glass, line of wines. The project, a team-up of Olivia and Sondre, is named ‘Patos.’ A friend of ours brought the wines to our attention - asking how it might be possible to bring the wines over - luckily we are wine importers and could do just that! But first up, we needed to taste the wines and dig a little deeper into what the wines were all about. Sondre was drawn to be part of the wines he kept finding himself drinking - lighter, natural, less aggressive. He teamed up to bring the Patos wines to Norway via Non Dos imports (importers of such greats as Derain, Foradori, Grappin, et.) We tasted and it turns out the wines were magic! Bouncing around the mouth and perfumed to picture perfection. Last vintage sold out before we could secure some to bring stateside, but what we tasted was a pure no-brainer, we-want-these-wines experience. We were lucky enough to secure a tiny bit this vintage of the rose and Cava.
